In the US 🇺🇸, the Secret Service is bound by law to protect all Presidential Candidates beginning 120 days before the General Election. Once he emerges victorious from the Primary, his security becomes the prime responsibility of the Secret Service, from 120 days to the general election. This happens irrespective of the party in Power.

In Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the major Opposition Candidate, a Senior Citizen, Former Vice President and holder of the second highest National Honours, GVON, is allegedly searched and intimidated at the airport, by the same people who should naturally extend that courtesy to him.

The government official excused it on routines. However, we all know that such reckless searches are not conducted at the port of arrival except on “reasonable suspicion”. Searches are more stringent at the port of departure, not arrival. Even as an ordinary citizen, I have not been so searched; you are ushered “jejely” into the waiting tarpaulin 😁 arrival in Port Harcourt International Airport.

That said, I won’t be surprised if they place any opposition flag bearer on the “reasonably suspicious” list. What a sin thing!

This is Nigeria!
